Question #2 in my 20 Questions series:
If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Easy. Okay, maybe I can’t pick any one person, but I can tell you who my dream dinner party guest list would include.
In no particular order:
- Lin Manuel Miranda
- Sara Bareilles
- Dolly Parton
- Kristin Chenoweth
- Ben Platt
- Kelly Clarkson
- Kacey Musgraves
- Oh, and also Ellen. Because she’s just the greatest person of all time.
Also my brother, my husband and a few best friends and family who would appreciate this lineup (almost) as much as me (looking at my theater-loving friends Dustin, Abby and Meg).
Basically, this is my personal list of both musical heroes/geniuses, who also just seem to have the most brilliant, loving, fun personalities.
I would absolutely expect LMM to bust out a custom rap just for me and those at the dinner party.
I would demand Sara sing “Gravity” a cappella and then play “She Used to Be Mine” from Waitress.
I would ask Kristin to let me duet “For Good” with her. And also request that she make us her famous White Trash Cookies for dessert.
I would request everyone’s silence for at least an hour to just listen to Dolly tell us stories of her childhood and make us all laugh and then sing “I Will Always Love You” while we cried tears of joy.
I would insist that Ben sing “Words Fail” and make us all bawl like babies. And also just be generally adorable.
I would ask Kelly to sing a duet with my brother, because I’m pretty sure that would complete his life.
I would expect Kacey to bring us all karaoke microphones so we can have a proper karaoke party.
And Ellen would do all the funny things and all the kind things and make us all laugh and cry and be thankful for our lives.
Also, I’d have the whole thing professionally filmed so I could re-watch the entire evening a thousand times over in a format similar to a wedding video that I can relive in a montage for the rest of my life. But also it would be so much fun, we’d likely make it a monthly occurrence.
Alternates, if any of the above absolutely couldn’t make it, though of course they would try their best, but just in case:
- Cher, to turn back time
- Justin Timberlake
- Willie Nelson, for multiple reasons…mostly to keep spirits high…
- Tina Fey
- Amy Poehler
- Reese Witherspoon and all her book club selections
The End. (Cleary I haven’t given this one much thought.)
Who would you invite to dinner? And by dinner, I mean a 12-course meal with the best food, drinks and desserts of all time that would last all hours of the night. And obviously it would be set in a magically lit backyard, Braverman style.
