It’s Friday morning. I’m watching the sunrise over the mountains while having coffee on my patio, and it’s pretty damn close to my personal heaven on earth.
I’ve been up since 5:14 a.m. when my husband got up to shower because he has to be at work early, and even though I do NOT, he thinks it’s hilarious to kick off Fridays by blasting Rebecca Black’s “Friday” on repeat.
It makes me laugh, despite my desire to be angry about it. The song is just so bad that it’s almost good, ya know? “Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal.” And “Yesterday was Thursday. Today it is Friday. We we we so excited. We so excited.” I mean, lyrical genius.
Needless to say, I started my morning on a positive note. AND in a Friday miracle, I poured two cups of coffee without getting it everywhere. (Our coffee pot has been a mess since day one and a perfect pour that doesn’t leave the cabinet covered in coffee is almost unheard of).
So now I’m watching this stunner of a sunrise. I’ve always had a thing for sunrises and sunsets. Some people laugh at “those people,” but I don’t mind being the girl who gets an unusual amount of joy from this little gift we get daily. If you search “sunrise” in my iPhone photo album, you’ll find 992 photos. I can’t resist.
If your Friday started out on less of a good note, go ahead and throw on some Rebecca Black, and take a moment to be thankful for some little thing today that you overlook or take for granted every other day.
Because like my favorite poem by Max Ehrmann says, “With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”
Also. It’s Friday. Friday. Gotta get down on Friday. Fun. Fun. Fun. Fun.
This morning’s sunrise from my backyard. Great Salt Lake sunset! Tulsa sunset from my old office view! Steamboat Springs, Colorado Gold Coast, Australia
